THE PANT AT GREAT USWORTH
( Map: 1888 )

O.E.D. Definition.  Pant ( Noun.2 - Scotland & N.E. England - Historic. )
A Public Fountain, Cistern, or Well;
esp. a stone or iron construction with a spout, from which water is drawn.

Could the name Pant have come from the sound of thirsty, panting horses?
