Vesting Day

Vesting Day / Nationally Agreed Wages

( 1947 )

On the 1st January 1947, the British Coal Industry was nationalised - collieries were no longer owned by private individuals.
National Coal Board flags were flown at coal mines to mark this historic occasion - known simply as, Vesting Day.

These notices were on display at all newly nationalised collieries.
