The Green Section shows Manor House Farm and Barley Dunn's Field - before Manor Park Estate was built.
[ I don't know if that was its proper name, but that's what we kids called it in the late 1950s! ]
THE ICE TRACK
Barley Dunn's Field stretched west to meet Manor Road, along the length of Richardson Terrace.
The middle-to-east section of the field, adjacent to the footpath running alongside Usworth Welfare Park, was flat.
The middle-to-west section sloped significantly down to Manor Road, with a steep upturn before the fence. Perfect for Sledging!
Every Winter, the 'Big Lads' grabbed the steepest section and soon turned their Snow Track into an Ice Track.
If an opportunity occurred, a brave Young'un would try it. It was fast and scary, but very exciting!
